Hi Willy! Please take a look at recent contribs. There is a spammer who is putting in stuff about Ugg boots. I've rolled it back a few times but the id itself needs blocking. I dropped a note to Dan about this but he did not reply. I'm happy to help if desired, I have plenty of admining experience with wikis. ++Lar: t/c 11:04, 14 January 2009 (EST)

Hey, no worries, I have this wiki on my watch rotation, you don't have to ping me on en:wp, you can just reply here, I'll see it. As I told Dan, I have some experience with this and if I were an admin here I could roll this stuff back when I see it. The spammers are creating IDs since you (wisely) aren't allowing IP edits... those IDs ripen and then they can use them. This is better than IPs but the best thing to do is revert-block-ignore ++Lar: t/c 12:38, 16 January 2009 (EST)
I'm fine with a wiki adminship but I guess a formal decision has to be taken by the steerco. I get back to you as soon as this is through. Is there a way to set the wiki that ID creation has to be confirmed by mods or admins? w.
Yes. It is possible to configure the wiki so that there is no ability to create IDs just by clicking on register. For example see the WMF foundation wiki ... there's only a "log in" not a "register". Access is granted by the 'crats of that wiki after application. It's a configuration setting, done by changing settings in a file on the box, LocalSettings.php, so Dan will have to do it. See the MediaWiki wiki, specifically the access section of settings. See http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Preventing_access#Restrict_account_creation ... Hope that helps. ++Lar: t/c 17:07, 18 January 2009 (EST)
